Hot Tub Time Machine has gotten mixed reviews. This is the first one from the local paper, the Cincinnati Enquirer. http://cincinnati.metromix.com/movies/a ... 29/content

Yeah it is getting mixed reviews. Some people haven't seen it because they think it will be silly but then those who take the chance thinking that end up loving it. I think in the long run it will become even bigger than it is now but really it isn't doing bad at all. It's doing really well from what I have seen. Could be better though.

 Re: hot tub time machine
I seen it and I LOVED it. I mean John was amazing and sooo funny. It was funnier than I thought it would be and his scenes were some of my favorite and yeah I am bias but its true. The whole poetry bit and the clothes he was wearing when he was on those mushrooms. Totally silly so it boggles me to hear that he supposedly didn't like some of his 80's films.

 Re: hot tub time machine
Well he's not fond anymore of his teeny roles but exactly these brought him to stardom and fame in the first place. I read not long ago in an interview with Ione Skye, the actress which played opposite with John in "Say Anything", that "We had to work hard to get John Cusack involved, because he was so fearful of doing another teen movie." http://thehollywoodinterview.blogspot.c ... g-and.htmlBack then he most likely wanted to shift to more serious acting (think about how the careers of many other children/teenager stars went basically dead because they were not able to master this important step) and these days he wants to be known for more substancial and charismatic roles. Alright I admit, HTTM is an exception but hey it was fun for him to do it and it's even more fun for us as fans to watch him.

Well it least he admitted later on he was wrong about Say Anything. but he's gotta know he's already proved he can do diverse stuff. He doesn't have to go out of his way to show us that anymore. I mean it was the 80's which IMO is the most beloved and remembered decade of all so he needs to calm down with that. Many people from the 80's have managed to embrace it and still be successful. I am glad he did a lot of the serious stuff. I love the drama but the comedies he did were just as good. Oh Shocko lighten up.

 Re: hot tub time machine
I saw Hot Tub Time Machine. I loved it!!! Even my sister who really doesnt care for John Cusack or his movies liked it. Of course, the movie is hilarious. Im seeing it again when I go to see my fiance, hes not a fan of Johns, but he knows I am, and will take me to go see it again, also he is intrigued since it is getting better reviews than he thought it would. But I still have one friend who refuses to see it. You see, I get a lot crap from these three people about being a fan of John Cusack, and the fact that I can get two out of three to see the movie is great, but I really think my other friend would like it if he would just get over it and go see the movie!

 Re: hot tub time machine
Oh you are all able to watch the movie.... good for you but I am sad and kinda jealous. I have to wait an eternity to see it and as I previously said the DVD most likely will be released before in the US so that's probably the quickest way for me. And, ariauna, they just teasing you for being a fan of John. Pick up some more movies with him - he's awesome - and they will realize it to. Hubby doesn't have any probs that I am fan (no jealousy issues whatsorever yet ) and thanks god he likes his acting too since "Better Off Dead". Btw my husband is just 1 year and two days younger than John so he basically grew up and became a man with his movies.

 its mediocre returns
I have come up with two possible reasons why this movie isn't doing quite as well financially expected, and no one seems to really be mentioning them. The reasons don't have anything to do with the cast, the plot or its inanity or crudity. First of all, here in the US, it's college basketball finals season, and Major League Baseball starts next week, and there have been a lot of early baseball games also televised. Secondly, the audience that is seeing HTTM isn't what was expected. I think the marketers aimed the advertising at the wrong audience. When we went to see HTTM late Sunday afternoon (three females and one male, all in our 40s), there were probably 30 people in the audience, and I think the majority there was females in their 30s. In recent years I have seen the following in the theaters: The Wedding Crashers, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Paul Blart Mall Cop, Observe and Report, The Ugly Truth and The Goods. In each of them, I laughed only a few times and was quite often offended. (Believe me, I had the opposite reaction with HTTM!). I didn't care for these other films at all. I noticed that the audience for these, with the exception of The Ugly Truth, was mostly young men. I've gotten the impression that that's not case with Hot Tub. As I mentioned in another post, the movie reminded me of The Full Monty, which was also very popular with women in their 30s. In summary, HTTM, despite its foul language and crude behavior, is attracting a different audience than what it had originally been marketed to. Does this make sense?

 Re: hot tub time machine
Yes, this does make sense and i totally agree with you. First of all, i don´t like that thing of aiming a movie at any specific audience simply because you end up excluding loads of people. But i guess it wasn´t only a fault of the movie´s marketing campaign, virtually all the reviews - good or bad - compared HTTM to "The Hangover" and echoed the idea that the film was intended almost exclusively to a male audience; women couldn´t possibly be interested in that hot tub. In my case, that couldn´t be further from the truth, some of the comedies i like the most ("Shaun of The Dead", "Hot Fuzz", "Tenacious D", "Borat", "Tropic Thunder"...) are reputed to be "guy movies", so what? I love them as much as i enjoy a "girl movie" like "500 Days of Summer". Another example, my favorite movie last year was "Star Trek", do i have to look like an extra from "The Big Bang Theory" to appreciate "Star Trek"? Hopefully not!

Somehow, the last person I would ever have thought of in regards to HTTM is Clint Eastwood.... http://manhattan.ny1.com/content/ny1_li ... e-machine-

I thought his birthday was June 28. This is the second article I'm reading where he's called "the 44-year-old"

 unrated
The articles I've been reading about all mention the unrated version. Are there R-rated and unrated (which I believe means X-rated) versions of HTTM being sold? Or is there just the one DVD with both versions on it? What, exactly, is the difference? (I'm almost afraid to ask!)
Have to make sure my mother never sees a copy of the unrated version in my DVD collection.....

 Family Circle
Interesting comment about HTTM in the July 2010 issue of Family Circle. http://www1.snapfish.com/snapfish/slide ... 6_7908976/I never heard the term 4:20 until a few months ago, which shows how out of it I am!
